What Does Gutter Cleaning Cost in San Diego?

What Does Gutter Cleaning Cost in San Diego?

By Chris Kunz, updated

Gutter cleaning in San Diego costs $2.50 a linear foot for open gutters and $3.50 a linear foot for gutters with guards, and most homes land between $300 and $600. We haul the debris away, so you're not left with a pile of wet leaves in the yard. Here's how that math works on a real house, and what changes the number.

We're Coastal Clarity Window Cleaners, a family-owned exterior cleaning company based in La Jolla. If you want to see exactly what a visit covers before you read on, our gutter cleaning service page lays it out step by step.

How is gutter cleaning priced in San Diego?

We price by the linear foot, which means the length of gutter along your roofline. That's the fairest way to do it, because a small single-story home and a large two-story home do not take the same amount of time.

  • Open gutters: $2.50 per linear foot
  • Gutters with guards: $3.50 per linear foot
  • Debris haul-away: included in both rates
  • Service minimum: $300

There is no separate charge for hauling the debris. It goes in our truck, not in your green bin.

How much does it cost for a typical home?

Most San Diego homes have between 100 and 200 feet of gutter. At our rates, that puts a typical job between $300 and $600. A smaller home with a short run of gutter will usually hit the $300 service minimum, since that is the least we book for any visit.

If your home sits at the high end of that range, or you have a long two-story roofline with several corners, the total moves up with the footage. We will measure or estimate from photos before we give you a number, so you know the price before we show up.

Why do gutters with guards cost more?

It surprises a lot of homeowners, but guards do not mean you can skip cleaning. Guards keep the big leaves out, yet pine needles, roof grit and seeds still collect on top of them and in the trough underneath. To clean properly, we have to lift or work around each section, clear what is under it, and put everything back.

That extra handling is why guards run $3.50 a linear foot instead of $2.50. It is still far cheaper than the water damage a blocked gutter can cause.

What is included in a gutter cleaning?

A visit covers the whole system, not just the sections you can see from the street. Here's what you get:

  1. We remove leaves, needles and debris by hand from every gutter.
  2. We bag the debris and haul it away.
  3. We flush the gutters with water to check the flow.
  4. We test every downspout and snake any that are clogged.
  5. We rinse the gutter exteriors so the front of the trough looks clean from the street.
  6. We finish with an inspection and photos, and tell you about anything we noticed, such as a sagging section or a loose bracket.

How often should I clean my gutters in San Diego?

Our rule of thumb for most homes is twice a year: once in late fall, before the winter storms, and again in spring after the rains and pollen season. Homes under pine, eucalyptus or oak trees often need it every three months, since needles and small leaves clog downspouts fast.

The easiest sign is a gutter that spills over the edge during a rain, or a downspout that barely trickles. If you cannot remember the last time yours were cleaned, they probably need it.

What does a clogged gutter really cost you?

When a gutter backs up, water runs over the edge and down the wall. Over time it can stain siding and rot fascia boards and soffits. Fixing wood rot costs far more than a cleaning, and you only find it after the damage is done. A regular cleaning is one of the cheapest bits of home maintenance you can book.

Can you clean gutters at the same time as other services?

Yes. Gutter cleaning pairs well with window cleaning, roof cleaning and solar panel cleaning, since we're already at the house with the ladders out. If your gutter job comes in under the $300 minimum, pairing it with another service is a good way to put that minimum to work.

How much does gutter cleaning cost in San Diego?

It is $2.50 a linear foot for open gutters and $3.50 a linear foot with guards, with debris haul-away included. Most homes run $300 to $600.

Is there a minimum charge?

Yes, our service minimum is $300. Smaller homes with a short run of gutter will usually come in at that minimum.

Yes. Haul-away is included in the price, and nothing gets left in your yard or dropped into your flower beds.

Yes. Guards block the big leaves, but needles, grit and seeds still build up on and under them. We clean them for $3.50 a linear foot.

How many feet of gutter does my home have?

Most homes have 100 to 200 feet. Send us a couple of photos of your roofline and we will estimate the footage and give you a price before we book.
